So here we are in Cervantes.

We got here about 2pm yesterday and it was a wash out. Literally. So stormy and pouring with rain there wasn't much to do but hunker down and ride it out. A quiet afternoon and night spent indoors watching old Planet of the Apes TV shows for the boys and I just hit the bed, closed the accordion separator and read and played on the computer for a bit.

Today was better: though nippy and overcast at least the rain stayed away. So we decided to get out and about. First stop, a drive on the beach fronting the Cervantes Pinnacles Caravan Park. Chris let the required amount of air out of the tires to do beach 4WD'ing and away we went. It was weird looking out the window and seeing the shoreline RIGHT there. We played it safe to start following old tyre tracts but then as Chris got more confident we went our own way. Both Riley and Jake had a turn down the tracks too. They loved it.

Next stop was The Pinnacles. We debated going (well, the kids did.. Chris and I were up for it.) We had heard mixed reports from others who have been there about paying 11 dollars per car just to see a bunch of rocks jutting out of the ground. To me even if it turned out to be overrated, it was only 11 dollars not 100 so it wasn't a hard decision. And I really wanted the kids to see a natural wonder. The pinnacles were formed millions of years ago, starting off as shells and then eroding over time due to sun, wind and sand and somehow these small and not so small sandstone rocks were formed. It's a strange sight I must admit. Yellowish sand with very little vegetation and these unusual rocks jutting towards the sky. Not exactly eerie as the pamphlets say but worth a look just the same.

The guys are out fishing off the jetty at the end of the beach right now. Don't know if they will catch anything worth while but have to give them points for the amount of effort they are putting in lol.

So far we have met some really nice people. An old guy who is parked behind us here in the caravan park got talking to Chris about some of the best spots further north for free camping - and the best time to go fishing here in Cervantes. We met another couple - Rita and Tom - the day we were leaving Guilderton. They are driving a massive converted flash-looking bus and Tom invited us all in for a look.. drool.. it's really roomy and expensive looking inside. They are heading the same way as us - north - so we said hopefully we would bump into one another again. They are in a distinct looking bus and well, you can't miss our beast. A 4wd with a bright orange boat on top towing a massive caravan with blue striping will always be easy to spot.

Guess that's it for now.
Until next time
